Eco Friendly Countertops
You have several different types of countertops you can choose from when considering new kitchen or bathroom countertops that are environmentally friendly. The cost of most "green" countertops is comparable to granite.
Recycled Glass
Recycled glass is mixed with a cement or resin base and can be found in a variety of colors. It is extremely durable and priced comparably to granite. The most eco friendly companies use cement as the bonding agent. Needs a sealant.

Bamboo
Bamboo is now available as a countertop for those who love the warm feeling of wood in their kitchen. Bamboo is very ecofriendly as it is a naturally self replenishing product that grows fast. It is available in long grains as well as parquet. Don't leave liquids setting on the surface or set pots directly from the stove on the counter. Generally cheaper than granite or glass.

Paper
Yes we did say paper. Recycled cardboard and paper can create an extremely hard countertops surface that is priced comparably to granite. It comes in several rich colors and has a tendency to change patina over time just as wood does. Very durable and stain resitant.

Concrete
Concrete is extremely durable and can be formed into extremely attractive finishes. It's not your driveway look. It comes in virtually any color and can have a variety of edges. The cost is comparable to granite. The surface is stain and heat resistant with a sealant. And of course the product is itself recycleable.
